Admissions

BYIS uses the combination of the following three documents to ensure every student and parent that becomes part of our community upholds the school’s values of: Growth, Knowledge, and Virtue.

1) Placement Test

  • The child must complete a placement test.
  • If the child is entering into the correct year, the pass score is 50%.
  • If the child is entering into the year ahead, the pass score is 90%.

2) Readiness Report

  • As soon as a child enters the school, his/her behaviour will be observed by the office staff and any Teachers that encounter the child.
  • A Readiness Report will be compiled by the members of staff who conduct the tour and the placement test.
  • If the child scores lower than 30% on the readiness report, then the parents will be required to attend a meeting with the Principal regarding the expectations of BYIS.
  • A child that scores low on the readiness report may still be admitted but on a trial basis with an accompanying behaviour report card that will be filled out daily by the child’s teachers.
  • If after two weeks there is no improvement in the child’s behaviour, a second meeting will be called with the parents.
  • If after a further two weeks (four weeks in total) there has still been no improvement in the child’s behaviour, the child will be asked to leave the school.

3) Previous School Survey

  • If the child is transferring from another school, the office staff will take an email address for the child’s previous teacher. A survey will be sent directly to the teacher to be filled out and returned.
  • If the score from this survey is below 20%, the parents will be required to attend a meeting with the Principal regarding the expectations at BYIS.
