World No Tobacco Day May 31

World No Tobacco Day 2016

World No Tobacco Day was first introduced by the World Health Organization in 1988. Later it was declared to be celebrated each year on May 31. The purpose is to have public aware of all the problems and health complications caused by the tobacco chewing or smoking. The use of tobacco leads to many illnesses such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory diseases, heart disease and stroke.

The WHO has also initiated the campaign for plain (standardized) packaging of tobacco products. According to WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan “Plain packaging reduces the attractiveness of tobacco products”.

On May 31, 2016 the school hosted World No Tobacco Day activities in which students were introduced to the harmful effects of tobacco. The event featured exhibitions, a parade and a short play. We are proud to announce that we had a full house.
